When it arrived, it had following configurations:

First thing we noticed was that it is a very thin and smart looking phone, weighing less than 120 grams. Its cover is high grade plastic with Chrome bezel and a massive screen. The phone looks a bit delicate and could be a bit sturdier.
Perhaps the best feature of this phone is it’s 4inch super-amoled screen…with a very high contrast ratio and blacks so deep that it blends with the screen casing.
Android market, which is an application store, includes over 200,000 Applications and Samsung Apps which has at the moment about 30 applications, are easily accessible from the phone out of the box.
As I wanted to run Skype on my phone, I had to update my phone to Froyo 2.2
I downloaded latest Kies and usb drivers from Smsung.com and installed them on my PC.
When I connected my phone to the usb, Kies informed me that there was an update available. I clicked on the update button. Kies downloaded the update files then went into the update mode and got stuck there.
After this, I tried several times, I ran Kies, Connected my phone to the usb, Kies recognised my GT-I9000, Kies showed that there is an update available, I clicked on the update button, Kies downloaded files, set my phone to the Download Mode and went to updating, but a message poped up saying that the usb device is unknown….Kies did not recognise my GT-I9000, which it was recognising before going to the upgrade mode. My phone was shown as unknown device in the system usb devices.
Frustrated after many hours, I downloaded and installed Odin 1.3. When I ran Odin 1.3 and connected my phone in the Download Mode as required, Odin did not show it in the COM: , I could not update using Odin 1.3.
However when I connected my phone in normal mode ( not in Download Mode), it showed in Odin and gave message <<Aded>>.
I wasted many nights trying to update my Galaxy S on my PC running Windows 7 and on my laptop running Windows XP, SP 3, but I still could not update it to Froyo 2.2 .
Someone suggested that had I connected my phone in debug mode it would show in Odin and I could update using Odin 1.3, but instead of wasting more time, I contacted Samsung through their website and asked for their help in updating it to Froyo 2.2
Samsung replied very quickly. They sent me an email with links to find a local Samsung Service Centre. I delivered my phone to a local Samsung Service Centre, which was around 2 miles from my house. The local Samsung Service Centre gave me a link where I could track my repairs job.
After around 4 hours, when I tracked my repairs job, I received this great news that my phone was updated and ready for delivery.
I received my Galaxy S and checked the phone status in “about phone”. The Firmware version was showing as 2.2.1…..My Samsung Galaxy S was updated to the latest Froy 2.2.1.
It was showing following configuration:

I downloaded and installed Skype. It is running fine, though presently I can not make video calls. Hopefully, the Skype will soon be updated to include video calls as well.
So, as they say, all is well that ends well… but there is still a problem…..we have only one Samsung Galaxy S …me and my son are always competing to play with this phone. May be we will buy one more!!!!
